High-drama unfolded in Himachal Pradesh after BJP MLAs won the single seat in the Rajya Sabha Elections, defeating the Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi. The Leader of the Opposition, Jairam Thakur met with Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today along with BJP legislative party members to raise concerns regarding the ruling Congress party’s actions against some BJP legislators and those Congress MLAs who cross-voted in the polls. Amid the loss, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is being accused of not being able to hold his team together as six MLAs cross-voted resulting in an embarrassing loss for the Congress. This has also off-set a no-trust motion in the assembly with BJP demanding a floor test. Following the chaos, Congress President Kharge had to deploy senior leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda and DK Shivakumar to defuse the fire in the hill state and get the situation under control.
