Google on Friday began to remove as many as 10 Indian Startups from the Playstore, including popular matrimony sites like Bharat Matrimony, and job search portal Naukri, over payments of service fee in India. The dispute centers on the efforts made by some Indian start-ups to stop Google from charging an in-app fee of 11%-26% after it was specifically ordered by the antitrust authorities to reduce it from 15%-30%. Google clarifies that these fees contribute to the growth and promotion of the Android and Playstore app. The founder of the Matrimony.com, Murugavel Janakiraman calls this as a ‘black day of Indian Internet.”
