A Tamil Nadu-based start-up achieved a significant milestone by successfully launching India’s first reusable hybrid rocket, “RHUMI 1,” on Saturday. This groundbreaking event took place from a mobile platform in Thiruvidandhai, Chennai, and marks a pivotal step in advancing research related to global warming and climate change.
The RHUMI 1 rocket is powered by an innovative hybrid motor that utilizes a generic fuel, blending the efficiency of solid and liquid propellants. What sets this rocket apart is its reusability, a feature that significantly reduces the costs associated with space exploration and scientific research. Additionally, RHUMI 1 is equipped with an electrically triggered parachute deployer, ensuring a controlled descent and recovery, which further enhances its reusability and environmental impact.
Launched from the East Coast Road near Chennai, this mission is a testament to the ingenuity and capabilities of Indian start-ups in the aerospace sector. By pioneering such advanced technology, the start-up is contributing to India’s growing efforts in addressing global environmental challenges, offering new possibilities for sustainable space exploration and climate research.
